Just wondering what people use for the " legs" on these flies? There is a bewildering array of materials . What I want is , ideally , a material that is rigorous / durable enough and retains its colour well.

I use this in red, amber and olive for apps.

The amber also makes good buzzer cheeks and the red, olive, black, and white, are useful for ribs/bodies on buzzers, emergers and nymphs etc.

Very precise measurement for the legs, that's probably why I never caught anything on this fly, I had random measurements on the ones I tied. Thanks for sharing Noel.

This is what I use, its excellent. unfortunately the brandling colour is out of stock.

The Olive Apps is a seriously good pulling fly!
I fish the Brandling one more slowly and sometimes under the bung.

I have tried a few 'flexi floss' offerings from several suppliers including Veniard and Kindale flies. The one I like tying Apps worms with the best, I sourced from Blob and Buzzer. Slightly thicker and not as limp as the others.
Happy Tying
