I'm about to tie up a collection of Boobies for an upcoming Stillwater trip.

So, thought it would be a good time to pose this question: What's up with Baked Boobie Eyes?

Is it just cosmetics (looks good to us) or do they perform better?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Bryan

Baked booby eyes look nicer ( to some) the surface goes shiny and slightly harder but they are less buoyant.

If you fish a booby on the dropper it will cause the leader to spin up......but you can reduce this in a number of ways.

Perfectly round eyes are essential to reduce spin.....also smaller eyes reduce spin.

Thicker/stiffer leaders reduce spin .....but also reduce presentation/ movement

Normally if pulling I fish a 5mm eyed booby top dropper and 6mm eyed on point usually 9ft apart on 10 to 12lb fluro

If fishing the "washing line" a 3mm eyed booby top dropper ( size 12 or 14 hook) and 4 or 5mm eyed booby point size 10 or 12 hook....depending on how high you want to fish on 8 to 10lb fluro

With 2 boobies expect to change your leader every hour because of spinning ( no matter what you do)......

A FAB on the top dropper won't spin the leader much at all but doesn't always work as well as a booby.

A buoyant head (with drilled hole) that sits just sub surface with a fluorocarbon tippet
