Brown or brown/rainbow cross?

Every days a skool day, I'd have said they couldn't interbreed but apparently it can be done in fish farms. Doesn't happen in the wild.

Th fact that a study on the Tweed showed 4-5% of fry were trout/salmon hybrids surprised me!

It can be done under artificial conditions, but never in the natural environment, as you state.
Progeny are sterile, and have very high mortality rate, for whatever reason.
Would be very surprised if any trout caught in the wild is a rainbow/brown cross.
However brown/salmon is not rare.
