Can you mix and match rod and reel brands?

Nowadays only the classic reels are Hardy, the other stuff is only hardy stamped. Not all is bad though, i found some rods are as good as any other overpriced sage or other american stuff, but the so called guarantee is what makes korean hardy rod not that competitive compared to the american rod producers.

I’ve a fair collection of reels and just as many are a “slack” wobbly fit as are too tight to fit and I’ve had to fit a layer of helicopter tape onto the reel foot (makes a neat job) to lift the reel up a bit, to achieve a snug fit, some of the Greys and Hardy reel foots are very slim as Abel can be.
