This winter my target is a zander and I want to catch them from canals and rivers due to the cheap fishing available particularly in the Midlands.

I would be grateful for any tips etc.

Me too!

I'm targeting the Grand Union Canal that runs through Milton Keynes for both Zander and Perch. Initally I'm trying for them on the fly, heavy headed, jig style flies that i can roll cast forwards as I walk up the tow path and literally bounce them back towards me. These are what I'm starting with . . .

For Perch Squimy worms Or small minkies about 1.5inch long... as you say jigged is the way to go

Zander on the reservoirs love minkies or snakes about 4 to 5 inch, just off bottom....but these are 4 to 12lb zander.....for canals I'm guessing the Zander you will be targeting smaller so perhaps 3inch Minkies and Snakes, at last light....??? Not that I've any experience , it's just a guess

Zander don't have huge mouths like Chub, Perch etc....so scale down on the flies.

Orange or Pink snakes are my best colours on Grafham for Zander if it's any help
