Quite frankly I'd be nervous about picking and eating mushrooms, but I guess it's a learnt skill. I recall a post by April Vokey now in australia of her mushroom foraging exploits and there were many responses by local experts informing of poisonous varieties.
last season in the woods we had an incredible crop of mushrooms - nothing I would be inclined to take a chance on but it was truly abundant. If the app throws up three alternatives in green amber and red then ....In France you can go to a pharmacy too. I've collected a lot and I would advise this: learn 1 or 2 reliable species and only collect those. If you find something new and interesting pop it in a segregated bag and take it home for an ID. If you successfully ID and it's good, you've added a species to your rostrum and next season you know the spot and conditions to find it again...
