The early bird migrants,''Sand martins/swallows. will be having a hard time in Scotland in the next few days with the forecast Wintry weather.I hope they can survive with little insect food, but that is the way of evoloution.sometimes the early birds have good broods allowing them to have a 2nd brood, sometimes they fail the 1st brood. but manage to bring on a 2nd brood.so the later migrants win out.''.Selection of the fittest''

The first sand martins arrived in north Sutherland on the 3rd. I give them no chance at all looking out of the window this morning :-(

Our Swallows arrived today.along with some House martins and lots more Sandmartins. ,must have been a good buzzer hatch (even in 3 deg) as they were all hawking over the water.
