Hi. in my 70's fairly new to river fishing but I was looking to add a 10 ft 2 # to my set to do some up stream nymphing would you recommend getting a 2# floater or a specialist nymph line - whatever that is - or would it be better to get a length of floating, shooting head running line in 2#

#2 floating line if you intend conventional upstream nymphing and also dries.
If you intend to use the set up purely for long leader methods then do just that, the lines manufactured for this are only of use if you need to work around competition rules that restrict leader length.

Go for a standard fly line weight forward or whatever you prefer. Level nymph lines can be hard work to cast and still sag if you want to hold line of the water. If yo get a standard line just leave a little extra room on the spool to take a long leader (French leader type) if you fancy giving it a go. Also with a French leader you don't have to fish them at full length, fish them short.
As to where to position a sighter, depends on where you are fishing and how you want to present your flies. Upstream nymphing you can have your sighter on the end of the fly line or just use the end of the fly line. If you are fishing a longer range then sighter usually at end of leader (can be any length you want or can manage), hence why I put about fishing a French leader short.

I fish a 2wt barrio mallard dt on my 2wt & 3wt rods. This simple leader works well for me.The first leader on this troutbitten article.

Where the 10 inches of 2X is i use 2X Rio sighter.I put a 1mm Partridge tippet ring on the end.I make it 13ft from fly line to tippet ring.Use this for Dry fly/Duo/Mini Streamers/Wet Fly & Nymphing. When I want to fish a more Spanish nymphing type setup. I carry 20ft of 8lb gold stren on a tenkara spool in my vest pocket.Tie the stren onto the tippet ring & away i go.

maxima chameleon. the thinner the better. I use 8 or 12lb most of the time.

20, 25 or 30lb to cast dries.
