the irish government are reducing the rate of tax on diesel and petrol tonight by approx 20c on petrol 15c on diesel too little too late i think

Do not think our government are reducing the rate of tax on diesel and petrol. It may give the wrong impression that they are competent. Would not want that to happen.

 

Perhaps they might be working behind the scenes instead? I read that the price of crude oil dropped below $100 a barrel today as, amongst other things, OPEC has agreed to increase production. I very much doubt that that happened of its own accord.

At times like this, I think it's important that none of us are inadvertently drawn into becoming 'Putin's little helper' by stirring up unrest.

 

As fuel tax/VAT etc are "collected" in direct proportion to the overall price of petrol & diesel, why would they want to do anything more than pay lip-service to the main supply sources, especially with Sunak wringing his hands at all the extra income they're gaining ?

There's no short term fix for this, either beholden to the Arabs or Putin, both will shaft us. I sell a reasonable volume of fuel and lpg, as part of my job, we will see an acceleration into alternative energies being driven, there's no alternative.

As I've said before, never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers. Perhaps we should start a run on toilet rolls again via social media to distract Karen and Kevin from filling their living room with plastic bottles full of petrol in a vain attempt to save a fiver?

There are people that think if they fill their tank up less they get better fuel consumption due to not carrying the weight of extra fuel.

It won’t be instant, as we only have one Harvest per year in the Northern hemisphere, so we’re still consuming 2021 harvest, on mainly fixed contract prices, it’ll be late Summer when issues start to bite and prices sky rocket.

 

My lawnmower uses about 2 cans a year, and it's March, not even started growing yet.
