Hi All,

I’m fishing Glencourse Reservoir for the first time this Saturday and Sunday.

Does anyone have any recommendations on areas / methods and flies that are working at the moment there?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Rich.

The road shore is holding lots of fish, (that's the road you park at), go around the island and fish all the way down the road shore, you'll come to a burn and a little bridge at the bottom corner. There is a bench just before it, where the wild swimmers usually get into the water, this spot is holding lots of fish.

Saturday is to be mostly showers you'll probably be on a washing line 3ft midge tip, candy booby on point with diawl bach, cruncher or cormorant droppers (preferably black.

Sunday is dry, you might get on the dries (culdies etc.) if you manage some cloud cover.

Talk to Kenny, who now runs the fishery, before you go out he'll tell you what's been catching.

Have fun.

Tight Lines Richard great advice from Campsie Fisher washing line with small flies on the droppers
if the roadside is not fishing well the dam wall in front of the boats and island hold big fish
in fact we have had a great day on a drift from the breakwater past the boats to the dam
8lb breaking strain recommended there are big fish in the reservoir. yellow owl on one of the droppers and a small cormorant
I tend to fish a fab tequilla sunrise rather than a booby .look forward to how you get on
Give us a report on the blog section .cheers Les

Our Club was on it last Saturday. We found it quite tough, but it seems that it is a case of good one day, slow the next, good the next, kind of thing.

Here is a report on the day...

Just got back from a two-day trip to Glencorse, and I honestly can’t recommend it enough. What a stunning venue — breathtaking scenery, super friendly people, and some cracking fish!

A big shoutout to Kenny, who runs the place. He’s one of the nicest guys you’ll meet — really welcoming, helpful, and always happy to share advice.

Day 1

Had a great day on the water — managed 4 fish, lost 2, and had a few more missed opportunities. Caught fish both on dries and on a mid-intermediate line with a Cat Booby on the point and two Cormorants on the droppers.

I fished all the way down the road shore to the bench, following some of the great suggestions I’d received ahead of the trip. Only fished until about 2:30 pm as I had to head off early, but it was a cracking session.

Day 2

Started the morning by bumping into Jock Kettles and his pal while they were tackling up next to me — what a pair of gents! They kindly shared some tips and tactics, and Jock’s mate (apologies, didn’t catch his name) even gave me two beautifully tied Cat Boobies and two Cormorants — genuinely some of the nicest flies I’ve ever seen, better than many shop-bought ones I’ve used before.

I decided to explore a few new areas I hadn’t fished the previous day. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to land any fish on Day 2, but honestly — at Glencorse, there’s so much more to it than just catching! It’s such a peaceful, scenic place that every minute on the water feels special.

Saw Jock and his pal back at the harbour later in the afternoon — they’d had 9 to the boat, so clearly the fish were there if you got it right!

Final Thoughts

Huge thanks again to Kenny for having me up for the past couple of days. Can’t speak highly enough of the venue — hard-fighting fish, beautiful surroundings, and top-class hospitality.

If you haven’t fished Glencorse yet, do yourself a favour and book a trip. You won’t regret it. 🎣
