Photoshop being an expensive luxury unless you use it often enough to make it pay
I was told to try The Gimp a Free powerful package has anyone tamed this package?
Any books to recommend?

Gimp is very easy and intuitive to use. The 'tool' menus are easily accessible and the effects are immediate and easily reversible. As a freebie it's excellent.

Having used linux exclusively for 20years or so, there are many free alternatives to Photoshop, Gimp Krita Pinta MyPaint and Photopea are just a few, all work on Windows too afaik.

Best regards

Photoshop was an on disc program along with Lightroom now they are too expensive for the occasional user. I had Corel and their later Photo Paint. Then later Photo Shop Elements but I want to try photo stacking and need a similar program to Photo Shop and Gimp will save as P.S files.
Thank you all for your helpful comments.
