My Farther had the same problem , he rigged up a trip wire around his pond which went to an old mechanical mouse trap which was fixed to an old metal biscuit tin..when the wire was triped the trap went off made lots of noise .....no more herron

The plastic ones work so long as you move their position every day because Herons are solitary hunters and won’t encroach another’s hunting space.

Not so sure that works,where my friend lives there is a heronery and they sit up the trees together and come to her goldfish pond. Children's seaside windmills work to a degree a plastic heron just tells passing herons there is something down there worth looking at

I thought the eagle owl decoys worked because of the predatory large eyes? Pretty much anything with big eyes should do the trick.
