“The Goldenloch”

Been a hard week from Tuesday 23rd June onwards, the days just since then had really bright sunshine, however, early morning fishing was the best described as “brilliant” by Darin Taylor, he will tell you when I went down at 8am he had been fishing for an Hour and had caught 8, on returning approximately an hour later he was at 11, the rising fish were slowing down, but every fish up till then had risen to flies that he had cast around them, during the day fish were getting caught sporadically by lads fishing deeper with beaded flies and heavier buzzers that would take the flies down to 3/3 feet catches were still good Grant McGregor had 6/7 using Black/Green, a few younger lads and Lassies getting good catches, mostly all from the jetties, the weed which was beginning to become a real problem, we have now managed to get under control and is pretty much all gone in 80% of the loch, ( working on it still ) a lot of work, pulling it out by the roots, this method we have found to be the most successful over the years, however I have never seen it grow so fast and vigorous as it was this year, leaving the blanket algae to die back itself pretty much was a bit of a mistake, but when you see the amount of feeding in the weed you will realise why the fish fight so well, there are a lot of bigger fish lurking around just now, these are fish that have been around for a few years, we have seen them as we have been pulling out the weeds and basically its amazing to see them usually there are two or more together, last week we had clumps of weed everywhere as the escaped weed floated aimlessly around the loch, today it was a pleasure to have such a high wind whipping across the water, it has done so much good in getting rid of all the crap, fish numbers in the loch are genuinely at an all time high, so is the quality of the fight and a lot of that is down to the feeding the weed is completely stuffed with pea mussels and neon blue shrimps, snails, beetles everything you would imagine a hungry trout would eat, all good grub, Neil Christie that was introduced to fishing a couple of years ago and having had trips to other lochs has now started bringing his next door neighbour here to fish Neil who now regularly catches fish was here on Tuesday and had an excellent day, with a few of my regulars still not coming out yet there are days that are still quiet and as such there is good social distancing to be had, the far side of the loch is excellent and the new area at the top is proving to be very successful and well out of harms way.
