I've recently moved house and, while exploring the public fields near the village, I came across a large pond.

I never leave the house unprepared, so I delved in to my backpack and pulled out my Tenkara rod. Within a few casts I was in to a small Roach, and every cast that landed near the lilies resulted in a tug, if not a hook up.

This seemed like the perfect spot to take the kids fishing, so I went home, grabbed the kids and a selection of rods and headed straight back to the pond.

The second session proved even more prolific than the first, with my youngest catching his first ever fish with a tenkara rod,

and my eldest catching with a full fly set up

I think we are going to like living here!

All fish went to GRHE's fished just subsurface, but I'm confident the Roach will take dries as well (there were lots of surface splashes) I just didn't have any small ones with me.

Looks more like a rudd to me, perhaps a hybrid. One of the best coarse fish for fly fishing.
