The weather at last looks to be improving with the weekend looking much warmer and drier we still have boats available.

Best fish of the week and season so far went to Dai Jones with a stunning silver rainbow which went 12lb caught from the bank at rainbow corner on a black lure. John Williams also took a rainbow of 8lb 6oz on a damsel.
Boat anglers have caught well using di 3 , intermediate and midge tip with a mixture of lures and cormorants.
Another stocking today with a few specials included in the 500. Please send in any photos of blues or any good fish you catch and watch out for any tagged fish.

Spring seems to be finally setting in at Clywedog NO snow this week! Osprey arrived back but news from the watchers is this is not one of last years pair but a new unattached female and when if the resident female turns up fireworks are expected! This has not stopped her from enjoying the Clywedog trout.
Fishing this week has been improving after a very keen easterly wind and bright sun dampened the sport last sunday and kept the fish down around 6ft.
But as the week has gone on fish have feed higher in the water especially in the areas where its calm and the spring buzzers are hatching. This hatch will increase in intensity over the next few weeks.
Some good fish have been taken this week up to 8lb with several others around the 6lb being taken. we have also had a few tagged fish come out as well there are still a good number still in so keep your eyes out and collect your prize at the lodge. The fish still seem to be close to the edges apart from when its calm and they move out across open water.

Best flies Blobs, boobies, cormorants, black diawl bach

Bank Areas Bigga, Gronwen field, Christmas trees, hedge end

Boat Areas Bigga, Willows, mouth of dead channel, Eblid high bank

We are fully booked Sunday with Clywedog league but we have a few boats left on Saturday

Its been a very good week at the lake the spring sunshine has certainly warmed the whole place up. Best areas on the day were Bigga, Llywd and Cages areas
top methods were fast glass with a Candy boobie and cormorants fished slowly.

Clywedog has continued to fish very consistent over the past week with good bags of fish being taken off the bank as well as the boat. Braich y ffedw fished well at the start of the week after a stocking with fish feeding on the surface to small beetles and buzzers.
As the week has progressed the weather has cooled slightly but the water has warmed and the fish have moved higher in the water with bags of fish being taken on the dries with fish taking buzzers off the surface.
We have had another good week for big fish with no less than 5 doubles taken the best of which went to Welsh International Bob Mayers with a solid looking 14lb 2oz rainbow taken on a coral boobie whilst boat fishing in the cages area.
Note we have had a couple of complaints about anglers not returning fish correctly these anglers have been warned about this so Please give the fish the respect they deserve when returning them keep them in the water and try and return them from the net,

Well its been an epic week for big fish over a dozen fish over 7lbs caught with a seasons best so far of 15lb 10oz taken by bank angler Jason Pointon on a Damsel pattern. We have also seen fish of 14lb 10lb four at 9lb.

The fishing itself has been very good with the boats probably getting the upper hand as fish move into open water to feed on the buzzer hatch. But the braich y ffedew has fished well from the banks it seems that the fish are starting to be a bit more choosey shying away from the lures and preferring to take nymphs and cormorants drifted around.

The Bigga has fished better towards the end of this week after being quiet last weekend.
Water temperature was 9c today and with the rise in temperature more fish are to be seen on the surface in the calmer areas. John Stephens took a fine 8lb 8oz rainbow that was feeding on the surface on a black shuttlecock.

Best bank areas Bigga arm, Braich y ffedew, Gronwen and Eblid

Boat areas Bigga arm, Mouth of Llywd, Cwm coch Eblid basin right through to Yacht club

The cold weather has kept some anglers away this week but despite this the brave soles that have ventured up to the lake this week have caught well. The bank fishing has improved this week as anglers adapted to more patient nymph tactics and have reaped the rewards. Nadine Williams took the best fish of the week with a very nice 11lb 2oz rainbow taken from the bank at rainbow corner.
David Ricketts form Aberystwyth took a fine 10lb 4oz from the boat and Christian Jones took a 7lb 3oz also from the boat.
With another bank holiday weekend on us we have put another big stock in with fish spread right across the top end. We have also put more tagged fish in as well as a good head of blues
Our resident ospreys have been busy feeding with reports of them dropping onto the water close to anglers boats.

I have to start the report with the breaking news that the Coch hatch has started, with today good numbers on the surface coupled with one of the best hatches of Cow dun in recent years off the Gronwen fish have been feeding very well on the surface with dry fly tactics scoring best.
The Coch have been mainly hatching around Eblid and Bwlch y gle but over the next week or so the hatch will spread all the way up the lake to Braich y fedew.
With the fish feeding on the surface so well our ospreys have also been catching well last weekend I was lucky enough to witness him taking a fish on the mouth of the bigga.
John Griffiths took a stunning rainbow around the 10lb mark which he returned in the bright sun at the start of the week on a diawl bach drifting the Eblid basin.
We have also had a couple more tiger fish caught this week and a tagged fish which won the capter a free boat for the day.

If you are thinking of coming up to fish this month on the boat pls book ahead as this is the busiest month with some weekends completely booked up already and week days filling fast.

Well the weather has certainly taken a turn this week wet wet wet! The lake is back to top level which will bode well for the rest of the year. But surprisingly for the hardy anglers that have ventured out this week the fishing has been pretty good, although surface sport has understandably slowed but with reasonable weather on Wednesday there was some coch around and the trout do not take much persuading to take them.
One point of interest for us as a fishery is the interaction and feed back from the anglers for some time we have tried to advise bank anglers to be patient on the bank and fish slowly with slow retrieves and allow the wind to work the flies rather than casting and fast retrieving constantly. This now seems to be paying dividends with angler telling us how they are catching more fish from the bank fishing nymphs and dries. Well done to all

Looks like the cooler weather has come just in time. Us anglers never get it quiet perfect when its cold we want it warmer and when its hot we want it cooler. Well the trout certainly like it cooler.

Best fish of the week went to season ticket holder Gareth Davis with a fine 7lb 13oz rainbow taken from the bank at rainbow corner on a pink gold head.

With the weather cooling and a little rain forecast the surface sport should improve over the coming days. We are sold out Saturday but there are boats available for Sunday.

The fishing this past week has been some of the best this season large numbers of fish have been feeding on the surface. Last weekend we hosted 2 competitions Saturday the Anglers World Holidays Championships Top rod on the day was Ken Llewelyn with an incredible bag of 33fish best fish went to Gareth Evans with a cracking rainbow of 6lb 4oz. In total 306 fish were caught for a rod average of 15.3 of which 266 were returned to be caught again.
Sunday saw the Welsh heat of the Sportfish team event the Welsh Hawks ran out winners with Valley Commandos also qualifying for the final at Chew and Blagdon in August the rod average was slightly higher than Saturday at 16.3 best areas over the weekend were the Bigga Arm the Llwyd and Cages
Best methods were either slow glass washing line method or dry fly.
Mixed weather this week with showers and sunny spells has helped to settle the water to a constant 15c and the fish are certainly liking it.
Water levels have fallen slightly over the week but as I write they have shut off so hopefully the lake should start to rise.
We have 5 boats still available for Saturday but Sunday is full as always loads of room on the bank

Llyn Clywedog report 3rd August

Here we are the start of August already. July was our busiest month on record so many thanks to all the anglers that visited us and enjoyed some truly great fishing. Trout Fisherman magazine voted us the number one fishery in Wales and 8th in the Uk we hope to improve upon this next year.
Although water levels have fallen in recent weeks ( thankfully rising again now) bank sport has remained very good with some good returns top spots have been Bigga arm Gronwen area Christmas trees and Eblid as always remaining consitant caught a couple in there today.
Last weekend we hosted the 4th round of our Clywedog boat league 50 anglers caught 492 fish for a rod average of 9.84 top bag was Ken Llewellyn with 36 fish ken fished the Llwyd area.
This weeks wet weather has not helped surface sport but the fish are still being caught on midge tip lines with washing line tactics as well as daddies dry and wet

Today we hosted a blind pairs match with some of our Celtic cousins from Ireland and Scotland that were visiting, conditions this morning were very poor with strong winds and heavy rain expectations were low of a good day! But in the end some outstanding bags were taken 34 anglers took 368 fish with a rod average of 11.5 Top individual Bag went to Christian Jones with 28fish Top Visitor Wullie Leech with 19th Top Lady Alice Davis with 17th fish best fish went to Tudor Owen with a 3lb 4oz
The Blind pairs Match (drawn by Jess when everyone was out on the lake) was won by Christian Jones and Ken Llewelyn with a massive 52 fish second were Gaz Dixon and Alice Davis with 43 fish.

Prospects look better for the weekend with winds dropping with a few showers next week high pressure building so hopefully fish back on the dries.

Clywedog continues in fine form this week and some excellent fishing has been had. Last weekends rain has risen the water level by almost 0.5m
The fresh water has pulled fish into all three of the arms over the past few weeks in fact a tagged fish that was stocked on the popular side last Thursday was caught in the Llwyd on Sunday nearly a mile away. During the year to date we have tagged nearly 60 fish and awarded prizes for the captors but the information and understanding how the fish move in the lake after being introduced has been invaluable to help us improve the fishery.
Back to the fishing the fish continue to feed high in the water with dries and midge tips again proving most successful. Even the bank Anglers have reported doing well with daddies and hoppers the best
Boat anglers have enjoyed some Stella sport with some boats reporting 30+ fish.
