A nice settled week for a change and the fishing has been very good we have seen heather fly and red ants on the water this week and when the wind is light the fish have feed well on the surface.
Bank Anglers are enjoying so good sport with the water level back up from a summer low, more terrestrial insects are around the edges such as daddies, heather fly and cow dun as well as midge and buzzer
So dry fly has been very successful from the bank.
Boat anglers are continuing to enjoy some excellent fishing with the Llwyd and Bigga Arms both producing good bags of fish

A very busy week once again up here at Clywedog with nice settled late summer weather.
One of our Ospreys has left on their long journey to their winter feeding grounds in west Africa. I am sure our trout will be relieved but a truly spectacular sight seeing them fishing at the lake, still a couple of ospreys around so make the most of spotting them before they to head off.

The fish are feeding very high in the water with plenty of nice fish being caught on dries with the best of the bunch Wayne Davis with cracking 10lb rainbow taken on a black hopper off the boat near Dinas point.
Another good fish of 9lb 2oz fell to Daniel Davis also from the boat.
More tigers caught this week so keep your eye out for them and send your pics in.

We have seen good numbers of ants a few heather flies and daddies on the water all this has helped to keep the fish looking up for food as soon as the wind drops.
We have a very busy weekend coming up with Welsh youth team eliminators on Saturday and our Autumn Pairs Match on Sunday which we have one space available fish with your partner to fishery rules to a 12 fish limit.

Llyn Clywedog report 7th September

Last weekend we hosted the Welsh Youth Championship on Saturday 21 youths fished the comp with flat calm conditions and bright skies to start things looked as if it would be a challenging day. But by lunch time the cloud arrived and the fish hit the surface and rods started to bend. a total of 143 fish were caught for a rod average of 6.8. Top rod of the day was Callum Russell with 17fish for 32lb 11oz closely followed by Ritchie Ricketts with 13 fish. It looks like the Welsh youth team have some real stars for the future every single one of the entrants caught fish well done to all.

Sunday we hosted our Autumn pairs Comp in rather damp conditions 21 pairs fished top pair on the day were Carl Williams and Llion Francis who reached their 12 fish limit by 11.29am in such awful conditions the competitors all did very well to weather the storm in the end 9 pairs reached their Limit bags with a total of 176 fish caught for a rod average of 4.2

As the week has gone on conditions have not been the best with plenty of Welsh rain around but you angler keep on coming and some nice fish have still been caught Brain Evans fished the popular side on Wednesday and took a limit with the best fish at 5lb 4oz. Boat anglers have caught well in the Bigga arm, Rainbow corner and cages area.

This Sunday we host round 5 of the Clywedog league so no boats are available we have 4 still available for Saturday contact the lodge to book.

Sunday the 17th we host our annual floating line Match its open to all contact Gareth Forgie Evans we still have places available.

Llyn Clywedog report 14th September

September has certainly been a wet month so far as of this morning the level is only 0.3m off top level incredible as only a month ago it was around 3m down! The forecast at least looks better from Saturday onwards with wind falling and temperatures rising, next week looks dry at last , hopefully this will bring the fish back to the surface with daddies being the favorite offering even fished wet.
Last Sunday we hosted Rd 5 of the Clywedog league in not to favorable conditions the fishing was testing but some good bags of fish were still taken even some on dries. Best areas were Llwyd, mouth of Bigga and Eblid Basin. Welsh Hawks were top team on the day followed by Foxans and then Clywedog Ospreys just ahead of Odds and Sods. The final round is held on the 21st October.

This Sunday the 17th we host our annual floating line Match its open to all contact Gareth Forgie Evans or the lodge we 4 have places still available.

Although this week has been very wet you fearless anglers still head out the banks today fished very well with limit bags taken from the Gronwen bay and Rainbow bay small black lure fished slowly seemed to be the theme.
Boat anglers have kept to the shelter of the cages area for the main part of the week with sport steady D Evans took a nice rainbow of 6lb 4oz from the boats using a snake pattern.

With some nice settled weather we have certainly had a busy week, with calm conditions we have seen very good numbers of fish feeding on the surface on the Autumn buzzer hatch on the warmer days a few daddies have made an appearance much to the delight of the trout.
Still some very large fish being caught Hugh Benyon caught a very impressive 10lb 1oz rainbow on a size 12 claret hopper

had the opportunity to have a day out in a boat this week.
The mist was very low down ,but the carpark was absolutely full -everyone must have read the same weather reports and decided to go and fish today.
As we left the moorings we could see fish moving ,and spent about 45 mins trying to tempt a fish,but like most anglers in that area ,only a few were caught.
We all have our own places to go and fish on the lake and we moved a lot of fish at the juncture of the Bigga and in the Bigga where we took fish,and then moved to fish the narrows and Braich y Fedw---fish moving but not interested even when going down to size 16 midge
Really enjoyed our day and the company,but apparently if you want to catch,you must use a SPARKLY BOOBIE--stripped through the "fish soup" as we heard it called,or some other method .
The day of the Daddy and fishng up the arms has gone,stick to the main basin,or we did hear that the Yacht club bay had a lot of fish.

As the Autumn cools the weather and the water the subtle change tells the trout that winter is coming and its time to feed. This has certainly rung true this week with some very big fish being caught and once again the bank anglers are picking these big fish up, This was the case on Tuesday with Adrian Maher taking a whopping 13lb 1oz rainbow from the bank on the popular side on a brown hopper not content with his achievement the very next cast he landed one of 5lb 3oz.
Not to be to far out done Tim Grove fished the boat today and caught a 6lb 3oz a 5lb 9oz and a 4lb 5oz all taken on a snake pattern thanks for filling in the return Tim.
Overall the lake is fishing very well the autumn buzzer is still hatching and if conditions allow then dry fly is by far the best but even if the trout are not feeding then daddy and hopper patterns are still bringing fish up.

The lake continues to fish well during this Autumn period the fish seem to be holding in the top 2ft of water and most Anglers catching using either dries or washing line tactics.
There have been some very good fish caught this week the best of the bunch went to Charles Jones with a 9lb 6oz rainbow taken on a black snake from the boat.
Bank Anglers have had success from Gronwen and popular side fishing gold head Daddies as well as black nymphs on floating lines.

Just back from a brilliant day on clywedog. Overnight frost & sunny flat calm made for a beautiful but difficult start & was fishless after 2 hours.Light breeze & cloud cover at 10.30 brought the fish on. Had 24 from rainbow corner on gold head tadpoles on the floater. Decided to give myself & the fish a rest & moved to gronwen & returned another 4.
Best fishery in Wales if not the UK.

A friend and I are planning to come fish Clywedog in May and I'm wondering, are there areas fo the the lake which are more suitable for fishing traditional loch style for wild brownies?

Clywedog has fished very well over the past week and on the calmer days fish have been feeding on the surface to hatching buzzers. But on the main the fish still seem to be holding around the 6ft deep mark.
Last weekend we hosted the first round of the very popular OES sponsored Clywedog league 14 teams of 4 competing over 6 rounds fished throughout the year.
A total of 356 fish were caught ( 250 were released) for a rod average of 6.36 per rod Welsh Hawks took an early lead followed by Llanilar and Diawl Bach
Top tactics on the day were Di 5 and Di7 lines fished slowly with orange boobies and black and green boobies.

The Bank Anglers are still getting the best of the sport as the fish stay tight to the banks Top areas seem to be popular side down to hedge end.
Boats Anglers catching well on the Bigga, Cwm Coch, Eblid steep Bank.
One thing is sure even if the weather is not at its best over the Easter break at least the fishing will be good another 1000 fish gone in today along the popular side up into the Bigga.
We have a couple of open competitions coming up during April the Clywedog open fished on the 22nd April and a Fundraiser comp for the Welsh Ladies Team on the 29th April

Hi Jon
There are a decent amount of wild brownies in Clywedog and i've caught several so far but pin pointing an area is difficult as they pop up all over the lake amongst the rainbow often.
But my own view is that the bottom end of the lake from dinas point down to bwlch y gle would be the place as this has less angling pressure
but please ask the ranger on duty that day and they will be able to give you any up to date info

Friday 30th March

Day started off flat calm with a few fish topping after buzzer (hatches, though sporadic were present in many areas all day). Found a few fish along Eblid steep bank down towards cages early morning, and a couple of fish into Rainbow Corner thereafter - these fell to black & green booby or viva cormorant on a di3 & di5. Fished where we could (lots of bank anglers out - all catching!) up popular and hooked into a few fish 30yds off xmas trees before heading to mouth of the Bigga and had four or five here despite the cold wind kicking up a little.

After lunch drifting in Eblid basin we decided to fish drifts all along Eblid steep bank and down towards Dinas Point in the afternoon which proved really productive, fishing close in with di5's and various booby patterns & fluff cats. Had a couple of larger fish (nudging 4/4.5lbs) here as well as a couple of tidy brown trout. For those interested in numbers we had nigh on 30 fish to the boat between us.

Great day at a fishery which seems to only get better each time I visit. Immaculate boats & engines and above all spectacular fishing :thumbs:

Fished the bank at Clywedog today, started over at eblid, after a few fly changes i started catching on a marabou tail montana, steady retrieve in the top few feet of water, banked around 15 rainbows before the wind really picked up, i decided to move so i had it behind me, headed round onto the popular side by christmas trees and finished with another 3 on cats whisker as my montana is now in a tree. Tough conditions but plenty of fish.

At last the weather seems to have turned and it looked like spring today a frosty start followed by a glorious day.
The milder weather seemed to have brought on the big fish today the best of the day was a 9lb 10oz rainbow taken by Mr Williamson from the Bank at hedge end on a Dawsons Olive.
Not to be out done the boat angler took some nice fish aswell Geoff Hogg from Shrewsbury caught a nice fish 9lb spot on on a white lure from Dinas Point.
One of the best Browns of the year so far went to Jeremy Wadley with a cracking fish he returned around the 5lb mark taken on a Di 7 and a coral boobie along Eblid steep shore.
With all the water that came in after the bank holiday the Bigga arm is quite coloured and it looks like the fish have pushed out from Gronwen down to popular side, Eblid has also fished well this week.
This week we have also seen lots more buzzer hatching with plenty of fish feeding on the them in the calmer areas.
Bank areas Gronwen ,popular side, hedge end, rainbow corner and Eblid.
Boat areas. Cwm Coch shore to Eblid, Eblid to Dinas point but if it’s calm fish are all across open water with washing line technique scoring well.
With the milder weather the weekends prospects look good.

What a week we have had at Clywedog ,big fish have been taken everyday as we go to press I am waiting on photos of 3 more fish between 6-10lbs taken today!
For the most part we have had cloudy damp conditions with light winds but cold for most of the week but thankfully the weather gods must be fishermen because things finally look to be changing over the weekend to much warmer weather.
The calm conditions have at least been good to see fish rising while they feed on hatching Black buzzer.
Clarity has improved greatly at the top end of the lake and reports today that the Bigga has switched on.
During the week Bank Anglers have continued to catch very well along the popular side and rainbow corner. The fish seem to be moving up and down in the water column depending on conditions and food. With returns showing floating lines and buzzers as well as sinking lines and boobies accounting for some good bags of fish.
Boat Anglers have done very well along shores from Eblid to Cwm Coch
And Eblid to Dinas point.
We have 3 boats available for Saturday with more space on Sunday.
Just a point of info from the Start of May onwards there are multiple days already sold out with weekend boats very hard to come by we do operate a reserve list but please book up early, we hate to see anyone disappointed.

After the gloomy spring weather that we have all had to endure lately the last couple of days have certainly come as a very welcome change. Today has been extremely busy and the fishing is certainly matching the weather HOT
We’ve stocked another 1000 fish today to go with the 500 on Monday and Clywedog has certainly caught fire.
Today another Llanilar legend Dai Willy took a fin perfect 7lb 13oz rainbow from the bank on a black buzzer, boat angler Taff Williams took another lump of a rainbow of 9lb 11oz on a pearly dabbler from the point of Eblid.
Bank Anglers are catching well right from the Bigga all the way down to the moorings, with more and more buzzers hatching smaller flies such as cormorants and black diawl Bach are taking fish along with the usual lures.
Boat Anglers are doing very well indeed with many boats reporting bags of 20 fish or more Bigga arm, Willows, Llwyd, Cwm coch And Eblid holding good numbers of fish.
We still have boats available for tomorrow and the weekend and at last with a good forecast bookings are filling fast.
Also please be aware only 1 brown can be taken in a limit and no Tigers are to be killed

The fishing this week has really started to hit form and we have had some outstanding bags of fish caught and with another 1000 fish to go in tomorrow ahead of the bank Holiday wkd.
Star of the week has to go to Welsh international Marion Davis Top rod in fundraiser last Sunday with 30 fish and 6th today in Welsh police championship as well as returning a stunning rainbow around 10lb today.

With calm conditions good numbers of fish are feeding on the surface taking hatching buzzer.
Washing line tactics seem to be the way to go from both Bank and boat.
Cats and biscuit booby with black diawl bachs and cormorants doing well.
Fish seem to be in the top 4ft of water depending on wind strength and sunlight, cloudy and overcast the higher they are.
