I'm thinking of buying a Maxcatch LA reel to fit onto a Vision Hero 9' #7 Coast. Avid or Avid Pro at £54 / £76 seem to fit the bill? Does anyone have any experience of these reels or any others within their range? Preferably with a decent drag to cope with occasional encounter with salmon and sea trout .

My policy has always been "buy once, cry once", you're much less likely to be let down on the "fish of a lifetime" with a quality reel, than some of the iffy Far Eastern offerings, the drags tend to be "pulsey" and not very sensitive and unreliable . Also If you're venturing into salt water stick with a known salt water rated brand . Abel, Islander etc.
