Size of water perhaps. If you only have a 100 fish in a 20 mile loch then less than 20, perhaps even 10 fully grown ferox in Calder? It would be more beneficial to the fish from a breeding perspective to be more numerous at a population of 20 rather than 10 or less, so downsizing would be a survival plan. Again I am in wild guess territory?

Having said that I do know someone who claims to have had a 'we are gonna need a bigger boat moment' when something jaws like cruised past one summers evening.

Sounds feasible!

Had a WBT of about 15 pounds jump clear out of the water right in front of the boat like a half pounder. That's different I thought - wonder if there is something bigger down there making it do that.🤣

Caught a fish on one of our club lochs it turned the boat completely around with 3 of us in it, and disappearing into the depths , it was so quick we didn't quite Know what had happened, we might have got a Mexican Sleigh ride out of it, easker1

I am interested in what is a ferox (like the ones the Ness Board guys are currently tagging), and seeing how they differ from potential pellet pigs in fish farm lochs, which anything caught in a loch fecked up by aquaculture may be). I have an open mind, but having seen the effects of aquaculture on the island brownies, just because a trout is big does not mean it is a ferox. Hence the query about relative growth rate and age.

That's Inverness for you!

Now, does that mean these larger trout are actually salmon, and vice versa?

Bert

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say NO!
