Old school vs modern

Just got my hands on some fnf jelly fly tying materials, some of my fishing buddies were telling me about catching wild brown trout on the blob, following my fairly recent return to fly fishing this was all new to me but worthy of investigation and investing in some and giving it a go. To say I was sceptical that a wild brownie would go for a fly that wouldnt look out of place on a Christmas tree was an understatement how wrong was I. Then when the materials arrived I couldn't find a blob pattern in my book but hey ho proof is in the pudding when a cracking fish wallops your fly and empties your reel as it heads across the Loch like a rocket.
