There are loads of clones about. They generally work fine and the white box gives fairly even light. I used one to start taking macro photos of my flies. The LED strips can give multiple highlights sometimes on some flies which can look odd. However at £8 you can’t complain.

I bought a soft "pop up" box years ago and am still using it, at that sort of money its worth a try and size wise it should fit into a bin if it doesn't

Any time I have tried USB-powered lights, there just isn't enough light from them. If I stop down the aperture at ISO 100, it ends-up with 30 second exposures!

I do use a light tent for fly photography, but it is fitted with 4 mains-powered lamps like these...

Prolite

So, I have 4 x 1900 lumens on the fly (600 Watts in old money).

Those LEDs running off 5V of USB will be a tiny fraction of that.

Of course it depends if you are wanting a clean white background to your fly, like this...

And it will depend on whether you are using a camera that can stop down to f22 and suck-up those long exposures in low light... 😜
