And we think those old 11 footers we used to use were soft.....!! that thing feels like a 15 foot piece of mains cable with a cork handle on it....jeezo..

The other thing that struck me - even my modern 11 footer puts a strain on my wrist by the end of a day out with it. What a woos, eh?

Wow, beautiful place to fish! Very nicely photographed as always. I love those action shots, I've tried a few times to get these shots from my bellyboat, not easy! Always seem to go bucket loads of 'close, but no cigar' shots!

Cheers, I find the going rate is approximately 5 bucket loads to one keeper. :D;)

Wee Jimmy and me - on Menteith last Friday - looking for some early mayfly action. A few mayflies about, but fish not tuned-in yet. Hard shift with dries in very very bright conditions. A few alders in the middle of the day saved our blushes...

Beached this greenbacked hoodlum (Yellowtail Kingfish) after a twenty minute fight on the flats, took out about 200m of line and didnt see the fly line again for nearly 15 minutes until leading him onto the beach. Taken with Nikon 1 AW-1 with UW zoom lens. Weighed 8.3 kilos (18 pounds) and 83 cm length. A trial for the new 7 weight outfit.

All the best

Thanks Mike, been a windy Auckland summer - and caught on the first morning that the annoying SW "breeze" wasn't muddying up the water. Hope you are bothering the local fish population, especially the salty ones!

And found this frame on the video that was rolling towards the end of the fight with the kingfish. You can see the backing join and the fish splashing 30m further out backlit by the early morning sun. Nikon 1 AW-1 in 1080 HD video.

Mayfly action from the Lake of Menteith with John (Colliedog) yesterday...

The early cloud quickly burned-off, after which it was Scorchio!

Menteith26Jun19_6378.jpg

Photobombed by a damsel... which is in better focus than the fish!
