Caught (not by me) on a Northern burn this week.
I've never seen one before and the guy who caught it (who has seen thousands landed) has never seen one either.
Makes a change from all the kelts I suppose!

That looks like a fish one would expect to catch in September.

I had one early season (January) fish in similar condition a few years ago although I suspect it was a fish that only came of the redds a few weeks previously, in march however that is something I have never seen.

Shame the wee lassie hadn't deposited & had them fertilised, stocks really need replenishing everywhere.
A baggot isn't that lean, carrying the eggs, is not so heavily coloured as the males, and usually has a rounder head too.
