A couple of years ago maybe more I seen 100s of cinnabar moths over purple coloured flowers, I'd never seen them before then seen numerous amounts one day, I've looked again since but never seen them in such numbers only 1 or 2, are mass gatherings unusual?

I'm going to start looking again now I know there out, I thought they had hatched on that particular flower, now I'm thinking maybe they had just gathered there to feed or mate?
