The mallard & claret in sizes as as small as 14's have caught me many fish over the years, I've found it particularly useful later in the season on a shrunken river fished on a longish leader.

Although these days I've substituted the mallard wing for pine squirrel.

I find an orange mini muddler on the bob the steadiest performer in both lochs and salt/brackish water. Similar success with ginger and peach variations.

As I do nearly all of my sea trout fishing in the sea or in brackish water, my go-to cast is a white sand eel pattern on the tail and a size 8 Golden Wickhams Fancy on the dropper. When the grilse arrive the sand eel is replaced with a foam daddy longlegs on the tail.
