Hi all,

was out around Torrance yesterday and on the way back we went over a stretch of the river Kelvin, (just after Torrance roundabout on the road into Glasgow) saw someone flyfishing there: does anyone have any information or suggestions about this bit of river?

Also, what kind of leader material should I use when fishing a dry fly and should I use the same material when fishing the washing line method?

Many thanks,
Jazzman.:)

Salmon permits available from J.B. Angling in Kirkintilloch, about ÂŁ20.00 a season. The river gets a good run of salmon at the back end of the season, trout fishing is for small brownies. Some pike in that stretch also. If you want more details Jazzman drop me a PM.
Cheers, Graham

Hello,
I have fished the river regularly over the past 4 years catching plenty of fish. It is very low at the minute and desperately needs rain to wash away some of the blanket weed. You catch the river right after a spate when the river is clearing, (it really does colour up) is the best time I reckon. Leader wise around 2-3lb and I have done well on various spiders and small dries, depending on the hatch. A small black pennel is a good fly throughout the river also! There are plenty of small brownies to be caught, my best around a pound. My best fish off the river so far is a 2lb sea trout on a dry sedge. Hoping to catch a salmon on the fly this season. Permits are ÂŁ15 and it covers all trout and salmon fishing. Hope this helps and I may see you on the bank sometime, look out for an angler with a springer spaniel! Esox II.:)
