Hi Folks, Quick(ish) question( I hope
) I am something of a fanatical lover of all things System 2 especially from their Made in England at BFR Falmouth days(Before Orvis bought them, promptly shut them down and moved production to China
) it's an obsession that started with my first System 2 ( a shiny new 78M) bought late 80's early 90's. before you ask, yes I have moved with the times and have lot's of shiny new, at times colourful LA reels mainly from China regardless of the brand identity they wear. I just love system 2's, all good things wear out eventually and while the majority of my sys2's are fine, some definitely need some work on drags, well just brake pads really , tiny little things whose absence effectively trashes an otherwise bulletproof reel. I've tried contacting Scientific angler's customer service every now and then over the years, but there's always been some " reason" that they couldn't help at that time. I've heard that the reason is when Orvis packed up BFR for China they made no provision for spare parts effectively killing off any support for British made Sys 2 reels all over the world? and no doubt selling a good few of their shiny new version of the Battenkill?? I've bought a fair few "parts" reels but unless they are junk they inevitably become part of my "working" collection and if they are junk? let's face it the drag was the first thing to go.( After the powder coat 🤣) So the question: Does anyone know a source for these parts either OEM or aftermarket? In these days of 3D printers surely somebody out there's making their own? Many thanks for any info or just general System 2 fan boy chat
P.s:
I'm also a big fan of the incredibly thin on the ground, generally unloved & supremely ill fated Scientific Angler's Mastery Series fly reel made by Hardy, Alnwick still looking for a 5/6 or 6/7 but Shhhh.... Don't tell anyone it'd ruin my boat cred' 😂🤣
