Chinese government policy are abhorrent. Past aspects of British government have been uniquely abhorrent too.

===============

How about our decision to bomb civilian targets in WWII, or let's look at India then one of the richest countries in the world, and after 200 years of exploitation by the British empire reduced it to a third world poverty stricken nation, or look to China and how we shamefully traded them Opium for their goods, or Kenya, or to Ireland's famine, Concentration camps ? another proud British invention, Torture ? the list goes on many more examples are everywhere if you care to look, try reading Simon Webb or Ian Cobain John Newsinger.

Best regards
Jim

Let's get the facts right shall we? The Germans started bombing civilian targets in WW1 or did you carefully ignore that fact? They used poison gas too. They started both World Wars and slaughtered millions in the process.

Why not have a look at how WE have been treated by others. Try the Roman invasion in 40 some odd AD. They butchered the indigenous tribes quite happily and I don't see the Italians getting all het up about it.

How about we look at the many Viking raids that killed and enslaved many in our costal towns & villages. Don't see the Danes and Norwegians getting hot under the collar bout that.

What about that French lot that came calling in 1066, killed our King and many thousands of others. No-one bothers about that, do they?

We cannot, and should not, be held accountable for what happened in the past. They were different times with different outlooks.

Just because some country made a brutal decision to carry out a terrible atrocity, does NOT make it right for another Country (In this case the UK) to emulate such an example, Britain should be ashamed for many of it's actions, as should other countries.

You go on to state: We cannot, and should not, be held accountable for what happened in the past. They were different times with different outlooks.

Tell that to the many people who have been shamefully abused.

So you suggest that we go around wearing sackcloth and covered in ashes, for deeds carried out 50 - 5000 years ago, whilst it is perfectly alright to actively provide financial support to a government that is actually carrying out genocide and other crimes against humanity - I think you need your moral compass reset!

Is this a competition to see who can overreact the most?

It's not complicated, what is in the past is in the past, but it also doesn't mean you can just conveniently forget and claim the moral high ground.
