Was tying the other night, stopped for a break and then went back, one of my lights was out.
So I had a quick look and this is what I found.
Melted, could have cause a fire.

What type of lamp is it?
I bought it from that shop argos cant remember , but its obvious that the fuse did not protect the system, I will double check the fuse.
It has a halogen strip light type circular bulb that went around the magnifier.
If I remember it cost about £25.
Still if I had not gone back in to the room ??????

Halogen and Plastic I would have thought to be not a good match. The heat that Halogen bulbs give out can be quite high ! Lucky you went back when you did I think.

I had one of those lamps or similar, it never burnt out but the 'adjustability' was lost and the top bit just flops down; tried various tapes to fix it but no good. I now have a tiny but bright LED from Scottie's vises that magnetises onto the body of the vise and I wear 2 pairs of glasses. I find it a better solution to the problem.

I have a magnifying lamp as well, faces the window, was working at it one sunny day and forgot to close the lid, a day or two later I noticed my leather chair had melted a tiny bit at the top, didn't know what happened to it until I realised the sun shining in the window of the magnifier did it, lucky the chair was fireproof 😁
