That was also part of the problem, Andy. Maybe one cast in seven or eight got the distance and the trout would come up for a peek only to turn down. Micro-drag almost certainly. The rods kept on casting too far upstream despite my saying the fly had to arrive right on the nose to have any chance of being taken which would have been as much by taking the fish by surprise as anything.

An interesting challenge, though.

Was using a Loop opti 8ft 5wt with a 5 wt loaded on a lightspeed great combination
a 3wt would not got you the beef that you needed, on such I light fly ( some maybe can do it on the 3wt )

I find when I have I get my correct distance I loop the line at the right spot around my finger so I know that each time I get it right and not land on the bank, but each to their own
would love a day on the Frome, looks a nice river
