Why does it have to happen now?

My number 2 spaniel has gone and sliced his pad. Trip to the vet yesterday afternoon and a flap of pad had to be sliced off. Luckily this should see him back in action before too long which is just as well because I have 8 days picking up out of the next available 12 - we don't shoot on Sundays.

This leaves me with one fully fit dog, and one elderly but willing chap. The puppy is still far too young to even be considered. I've ordered a special boot and sock for the injured dog which should enable him to be back in at least limited action by Saturday.

Not as bad as one of my friends on the same shoot. His dog got a 3" long and very deep cut down to the muscle on his back leg. Luckily the estate are willing to pay vet's bills for injuries incurred in the line of duty.
