I haven't fished the Knaresborough Piscatorial water but I have been a member of the Ilkley angling club and the Piscatorials have access to their water on the Wharfe at Ilkley, and vice versa. I've also bait fished the free stretch and caught some nice chub there. The trout seem to be taken, so not many there. The Ilkley club is actually slightly cheaper and you would also get access to the Wetherby club water, which has some good grayling fishing. Living just north of London I envy your choice of good quality waters.

If you are looking to join a local Nidd club Knaresborough Anglers have 4 miles of the river between Killinghall and Hampswaite, plus a small Stillwater. There are a few vacancies.

    Hi Nidd,

I'm moving to Knaresborough at the end of this month, I've noticed the free fishing at Horshoe Field which I have tried. but wanted to know if that private angling club in Scotton includes up through the forest above Horshoe field? looks like great water up there but I cant find much info on it, I can see Knaresborough Pisc have the part up of the sawmill though.
    Cheers

There are to clubs at scotton mate, one has water that starts just above the horse shoe water, i think the club is called JVS Flyfishers or something, they have around 30 member and is about 100 a year.
The little club above them as far as i know is very hard to get into.

I can recommend the JVS club mate lovely water and good fishing, and parking. (if the name of club is wrong i apologise, i'll try and dig details out)

    Hi black and silver

that water looks nice on the ajs website. Still trying to decide what club to apply for this season. You might have thrown a spanner in the works if they still have vacancies!

Been planning to get out and have a look at a few different waters over the winter, using days out with girlfriend and dogs as an excuse. So far only managed a look at the bradford city water on the wharfe, can fish it on an exchange ticket already though so might have a look at the nidd as well.

I used to fish between the sewerage works and the viaduct as a kid. Can't say I ever joined a club though!
Used to get lots of Perch on worms, with the occasional trout.
In my mind they were all massive, but I suspect that's a combination of me being a lot smaller then and rose tinted glasses.

I haven't been down there in 25 years or more.

For the Nidd, there's a number of clubs with good water, but for me i'd say Nidderdale Angling club edge it, but you would't go far wrong with AJS, Knaresborough Anglers or Harrogate Fly Fishers.
I'll put a few links below.

The free bit is a strange stretch, looks like Trout, Grayling heaven, but i've tried it a few times on the fly and in 3 runs the look so fishy i've caught very little, might be just down to all the dog walkers and kids, or maybe i'm just c**p lol.
There's definitely some big fish in the slow canal bit down to bridge where the boats go, but that type of water just ain't my thing.

Yeh, I had two grayling on the right hand of the bend 2 weeks ago, but I also had a 4/5lb chubb which felt like dragging in a wellyboot, fell of at the net sadly. But the fishing seem to be hanging tight in the slow sections at the moment, So come march I might set up another rod with intermediate line and put some streamers through when trout season comes about!
