Default New 2018 Brown trout thread.

Our season kicks off here on Thursday, some may be earlier and some later, but I thought we’d get this in place ready.
Whatever day you start I wish you all a great season ahead, please put your reports and pics on here.

Have a great season yourself Mr T
Not a great first day here yesterday, low water after the very dry summer, water very cold at 12 degrees after the snow and chucking it down all day
Two days earlier I was in 37 degrees so it was a bit of a shock to the system to say the least, brass monkeys I was !
Not a trout seen at all although one wormer got a keeper apparently.
I still had a lot of fun though and it was great to be out on the water playing with my new boo, reel and silk line, thanks Fella's, you know who you are
    Things can only get better
I was pleased to see two river wardens checking tackle and licences, far too much abuse here in the past and they have reduced the take to three fish per person now as well which should help a lot, Compulsory c n r on all the streams would help more but you can't have it all eh !
I might try and sneak off midweek if it gets warmer !
    Tight lines Lad's
Yes, I do heartily repent. I repent I had not done more mischief; and that we did not cut the throats of them that took us, and I am extremely sorry that you aren't hanged as well as we.

My trout only bit of river opens this week but if the past couple of years are anything to go by, it will be mid April before the fish start showing themselves

I clicked into this thread thinking it was the grayling thread.

A New 2018 Brown Trout thread!

I now have a season ticket (today) for my wild brown trout reservoir - season starting on the 15th of this month. Having said that, the last couple of seasons, It has been a wall of snow with the road still being almost impassable. I'm talking about Talla reservoir in the borders.

The Upper Tweed and the Ettrick and Yarrow rivers, start on the 1st April, and last year I caught trout from the 'Off' on these waters.

I have recently been walking the banks of the tweed near my house, and have seen hatches (no rises) of LDO'sI

I have enjoyed grayling fishing on the Clyde and latterly on the Tweed - last year, and this year, but I am now longing to flick a dry fly to a Brownie.

    Won't be long now!

Much the same here Steve, just nice to feel you can legally go out and waste time from the 15th.

Sadly i have no trout waters down here, must be a special moment “opening day”. Full of expectation, wandering a familiair bank watching previous years hot spots. Any way happy hunting guys?

Yes it’s strange, it’s the top end of the river so only small, more like a brooke but where the fish hide themselves early on I don’t know, there had been and still are gooseanders on which I thought had seen all the fish off but when it warms up a bit they seem to be in all the places you had tried a few times and blanked previously.

I think you’ve summed that up pretty well Jerry, it is a time of year to look forward to, sadly in my case I see the rivers here deteriorating each year.
You joined me on my river years ago, but you’ve just been to New Zealand.
    Did I get invited??

Douglas, as I may have mentioned, I'm hoping to have a day on Fruid this year.
Are Talla and Fruid open as early as 15th March these days ?
Not that I'm likely to get down until at least mid April.
