First time today as a member of a new club and new water. Managed a few small trout but the surprise came with what I think is my second best grayling. OOS so got it back quickly, but was quite a fish. See below for a couple of pics and my blog write up.

After having taken HRH away for a few days break, today was a day on the river .Having got there fairly early I expected a slow start; indeed it was slow. Found the water to be quite low, and crystal clear, even at waist deep could see every rock and pebble. With a cold and gusty wind, fished 2 pools with spiders and nymphs, nothing doing, getting on for 2 hours before a few juveniles took spiders (nearly all to black spider). Worked upstream, nothing showing, again a couple of juveniles to black spiders, tried a few klinks and parachutes, no interest at all.
Expected to see some fish moving early by early/mid afternoon, not a single rise, nor any kind of hatch.
Finished at a pool where smaller river comes in to form a junction, swung the spiders around the currents, quite a few pulls/tweeks , but only one stayed on and that was a grayling.
Disappointing day fish wise, but still pleased to be out.
Weather is forecast to warm up this week, may help liven things up a little.

Nipped out for a few hours today , river looking very low , thought I would mix things up a bit more , fished dries , nymphs , spiders and the Duo , caught on all methods , used a nylon tapered leader for all different styles of fishing .

Small size 20 Pheasant Tail Nymphs seemed to work the best , Duo also proved effective , not as good on the dries and spiders , managed 20 plus trout . The OOS grayling were a bit of a menace , hard to avoid on such a productive river .

Noticed plenty of wild garlic in places , Spring looks like its here , weather forecast looks good for the rest of the week .

Managed 2 hrs this morning on a North east burn. When I arrived at 0600 it was 1° and very windy as well as the water being low. I have caught trout from this small burn in the summer but I have never fished it this early on in the year.

Set up to high stick nymph using my 9ft 2#. 4ft tapered furlie to about 4ft 3lb tipit. Fished a single size 16 PTN.

In the 2hrs that I had on the water I never managed to connect or see a fish. I'm pretty sure that the river is full of fish but I maybe just hit it at the wrong time fishing 0600 -0800 with it being so cold wasnt ideal.

I did however spot some brilliant wild flowers and sat and watched a bird of prey perched on a tree close by for a bit.

First blank I've had in a while but I still had a fantastic two hours. Has to be better than not getting on the water.

Sounds a bit like the upper bit of my river, needs a few weeks for them to wake up, just makes for a shorter season.

Is it the clyde you fish Steve?

Yeah the rivers seem to wake up alot quicker south of Yorkshire I'd say.

I had my first trip to the Goyt this year and saw sight nor sound of a fish. Big nymphs, little nymphs, dries, dries with nymphs, spiders, spiders with nymphs, spiders with dries, up and down the water column. Good casts, a couple of great casts allowing for the downstream wind. Nothing, nada, zip. I was disappointed when my missus said she had to be in Stockport for less time than she'd first said. After a blank three hours I was only too happy to walk away.

Still, it was nice to be on the river...
