I’d rather have been building a rabbit hutch!

Men and fish are alike, they both get into trouble when they open their mouths.

Feels like an age since I last fished the river, only 4 weeks or so ago. 7ft rod and fished duo due to a strong breeze that did make fishing difficult. Along with very low and clear water that was cold, bright sunshine and low tree branches rendering some pool unfishable without the use of a chain saw. Only fly life were midges with just the odd brook dun that actually landed on me. Needless to say, fishing was slow. I covered a lot of water and fairly quickly as was meeting my mate at 12:30 for lunch, started fishing at 11:00. Took half hour before my first of the day, a tiddler to the nymph. Another 15 minutes of fishing before fish number 2, this time a 10 inch fish to the dry. I fished a stretch comprising of pocket water, I picked up 5 with another to the dry and a few lost or missed with one fish caught that wrapped me round a trailing bramble. With 10 minutes left, I fished a weir pool. Managed 3 with another to the dry. Best fish went 12 inch. I then stopped and found my mate, he managed just 1 on a nymph.
After lunch I went to fish above the weir pool, got there only to find a poacher fishing the weir pool. I sploshed over to him and informed him that it was fly only and club membership needed. I also told where he could fish for free and any method. I watched him leave.
The fishing then went down hill, I managed another 5 all to the nymph, nothing of notable size. My mate managed 3 all to the nymph.
At least it was enjoyable to get back to river fishing.

Got out for two hours yesterday, caught a few including a nice fish at just over 16", my best so far this season.
