Had a successful session today. Ended up with 14. Nothing big, but all beautifully coloured well conditioned wild brownies 9''-13''. All captured on a Parachute Adams.

Unlike the other day, they all went for my fly with great enthusiasm. Only lost one fish today, out of 14. That must be a record for me.

As usual with this stream, very little showing on the surface, but a dry fly fished blind will bring them up. The conditions were pretty much perfect.

A good day. Some pics to follow.

Best of the day - A fatty.

Lots of Meadow Cranesbill, lining the banks.

Fished with my new Barrio Mallard line today. These must be one of the best value lines out there at the moment. It performs well and doesn't cost the earth.

Everyone has their favourite pools. This one has thrown up some 'big' surprises in the past. Not today though!

Well no. What with a spate on the day and a couple of weeks in Greece, today was my first chance. As per the plan, got in well below and slowly waded upstream into range. There was a fish close to the bank showing a fin as it fed on something subsurface and it took my sedge first attempt. A decent enough fish about a pound, but not the one Id seen before. I guess that with all the recent floodwater the biggie had moved house. Not a bad result anyway and its a spot to keep an eye on.

Met up with Dave b today and had a great session on the river. Fished mostly nymphs with a couple to the dry.

Had some lovely fish from all kinds of water.(I'll let Dave go into all of the details).

Had a nightmare with snappoffs again. I really need to stop pushing my luck with the 3lb floro.River fishing for brown trout 2019 but what's fishing without some challenge.

    Great day and great company.

Had a great day on the river with CT. Conditions weren't ideal with the river being very low, lacking flow in some areas due to weed and bright sunshine all day.

Although we saw the odd fish rise, it was only the odd one. If you put a fly across them with the exception of one grayling and a very good trout Conan hooked, they simply weren't interested.

We could have cast dries all day but we'd have struggled to catch so small Pheasant Tail nymphs generally with a hot spot were the order of the day.

Highlight of the day was taking turns spotting for each other approaching the top of a run in a deeper area with good weed cover. It was challenging fishing as casting had to be accurate between the ranunculus beds.

It was great sport and watching the trout feeding and taking nymphs on the fin was very interesting. We did try presenting dries to see if they would oblige, but even though you'd see the odd tail or back they weren't interested as they were intercepting nymphs just sub surface.

Moving up the river it was fishing very hard. Some areas that usually hold good numbers of fish seemed to be devoid. It's amazing how the river can change within a few weeks with a few less inches of water.

There was the slightest tint of suspended chalk but for people who don't fish the river it would have appeared crystal clear. With the rain storms we had last week I expected it to be up and pushing a bit but I couldn't have been more wrong.

We took turns taking odd fish and in the afternoon after fishing a section which is well shaded, Conan was starting to feel the cold as his waders had been leaking all day. Combined with my bad back which couldn't take any more wading we decided to call it a day.

It was great to be on the river in great company, so thank you Conan for a great day.

I was out on the welsh dee yesterday on the llangollen maelor beats with the other half. It had dropped and cleared nicely but the water was still pushing on at points.

We saw four other people all of which blanked but I managed to pick up an 8"or so grayling on a tungsten pheasant tail, more luck than judgement. The other half threw a blank also.

There was a large amount of small gnat type flies and a constant stream of olives coming off also but not a rise was seen all day by any one.

Weather was dull and cloudy , river had a tinge to it , I prefer overcast days on the whole , noticed the odd fish rising in a few pools , but not enough surface activity to go all out on the dries .

I enjoy nymph fishing this time of year as you can target the main pools as well as the pocket water and shallow riffles , my ankle is not fully better so decided to just have 3 hours on the river .

The first hour I caught mainly grayling , Pheasant Tail Nymphs and Hares Ears tied with copper and silver beads were the order of the day , after a hour or so I started picking trout up , really enjoyed fishing the faster shallow glides and pockets .

After 3 hours my ankle started hurting me , a decent few hours by the river , ended up with 26 grayling and 25 trout , including a few fish around 16 inch in length , all the fish safely returned .

Good sport yesterday evening. One very nice grayling and plenty of trout, most around the 12" size. There was little surface activity, but I found the fish happy to come up for a drag free dry.
