Default Fly fishing reunion after 10 years away in the Shropshire area

    Hi all.
After just over 10years out of the game both myself and father are looking to return to the sport and attempt at casting a line again.

I'm guessing that a bit will have changed during this time away. So if anyone could give me an update on venues around the Shropshire, North Wales and mid Wales areas that would be great. A few of our old time favorites have been listed bellow.

    1. Delbury Hall (heard its not what it once was)
    2. Cound Lake (sadly gone now I belive)
    3. Fisherwick (was never amazing back then)
    4. Westlowmere (I know it's Congleton)
    5. Usk and Wye on the passport system.

    Regards
    John

    Welcome back Murph.

    Ellerdine lakes receive good reports.
Blithfield - the catch & fishing reports are updated on here every month.
    Loynton has good reports

Don't live in the area now and so I cannot give first hand assistance but I'm sure you will enjoy finding out yourself.

    Tight lines!

Welcome back. Just be careful though, there are big sharks off the coast of Reunion. I wouldn't get in the water.

Hi john have looked at jay farm near Leintwardine its only a small spring feed lake but the people that run it are really friendly. If its river fishing your after you could look at The Pheasant tail fly-fishers. PTFF They don't do day tickets but if you our going to do a lot fishing they have some very nice water around Shropshire area.
I fish, therefore I am 'Rene Descartes' { or was it captain birdseye}?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think our first reintroduction will be at Loynton.

    Hi Murph,

I live in Shrewsbury nowadays and through the winter regularly fish Ellerdine and Delbury, I also fish Loynton every now and then.

Ellerdine gets busy and is quite numbers based to me, a lot of competetive folk. Delbury is very quiet and basic but I enjoy fishing there very much. Generally have the place to myself even on a weekend.

Loynton is a good fishery and I don't really know why I don't visit it more often. This weekend I am visiting llandegla for the first time. I am also part of the salopian fly fishers, they are a good club but I dont think I will be renewing just because I like to fish with a friend and my other half for whom it wouldn't be economically viable for them to pay for the memberships also so that is only for when I am on solo trips.

    Cheers,
    Jim

Fished Fisherwick a couple of weeks back and it was a nice place to be despite the 4 hours of torrential rain , had 2 and mate had 4 nice hard fighting 2lb max rainbows .

    Easy place to fish at a reasonable price , 16 sport , 20 - 3 fish .

Thanks. I always remember Ellerdine being a bit like that.
    "How many you had?"
"Just the 1 at the moment"
"Oh, I've just had my tenth of the day"
As he continues the fish the same peg all day, thrashing the hell out of the water.

We used to love the quietness of Delbury, and always caught well there. I was just concerned that it wasn't as good as it used to be. So do you still fish it regularly?

Also good to hear Fisherwick is going strong. Will have to pay it a visit. I haven't been since they changed it from the bigger lake to the smaller one now.

    Thanks John

Yeah that sums up Ellerdine quite nicely.

I was at Delbury on the weekend. Snowing on arrival but still plenty fish up on the surface willing to play. The hut is a bit battered but has brews and a microwave. I like it there.

I actually havent been to fisherwick or jay farm yet but I plan too over the winter

    Cheers,
    Jim

Hmmm I'm torn now. I love Delbury but just thourght it had gone of the boil so Loynton was the venue I'd chosen. I'm not too sure now, Delbury might be getting a visit now.

    Did it fish OK?

    Thanks
