We need more rain but at least it lifted upwards today Could do with a good flush out.
Never seen it so low, in over 40yrs of fishing the river.

Not seen anyone post on here for a while, so I thought I'd try and revive what used to be a popular and useful thread.

I managed to get out today for 3 hours. The spot I wanted to fish had a car in the lay-by (I should get up earlier) so I went further upstream. The water was low and clear and we had a cold downstream wind that made accurate casting difficult. I started with a couple of nymphs and fished the head of a long pool. I picked up a couple of fish and then moved on to fish some pocket water where I picked up another couple of small fish. We had a couple of showers and after each, the river came alive and I managed some good sport on dries, albeit the wind made casting difficult. I rose a lot of grayling and missed most. Ended the day with 10 fish, best about 1 1/4lb grayling.

The trout season is now over for another year. I've had some excellent trout from the river this year, especially early season. The hot, dry summer made June, July and August difficult and I ended up leaving the river alone for many weeks. Hopefully, we'll get a good autumn and can target the grayling.

There is a few grayling starting to show now the temperature is dropping it would be a good time to get out on the river. Leaves are dropping and fish are rising.
