Thought I'd breathe some life into this thread after quite a while...

I'll be heading up to Richmond for a few days over the next couple of weeks. Anyone who fishes up that way have anything to add to the helpful hints already posted? Anywhere likely to be quiet and fishing well?

Thanks in advance, looking forward to it!

I was also out last Sunday around Brompton, had loads of trout on nymphs in pocket water, then switched to a small black f fly and got plenty of grayling, as George says it is fishing well.

Not fished it this season but walked to Easby Abbey on Saturday. Low but with flow and coloured. Looked very fishy below the old railway bridge.

Fished on a Richmond Day Ticket with my coarse fishing mate the start of last week at Easby and Great Langton. Easby was mainly small trout, didn’t see a lot else moving and was only using dries. There are usually a few grayling around there too. At Gt Langton, there were loads of small grayling showing in the glides upstream of the overhead wires – this was in the sultry heat of Monday morning before the rain, after which it appeared to go dead upstream. There was still an intermittent riser down near the bridge however, a big-looking individual – usually a sign that one of the Kirkby Fleetham AA’s stockies has strayed a few yards above the boundary. I'd switched to coarse tactics by then, though, it was raining and windy, and the fly rod was back in the car. Once we did switch over, the coarse fishing was decidedly poor, although in fairness the river was low and the air temp dropped by about eight degrees in three hours after the rain arrived.
