Default Fishing the River Lagan tonight Northern Ireland

Fishing on a river tonight for only the second time, any ideas of flies to try at this time of year? I'm usually a fishery or lake man so river fishing is new to me. I will be fishing for small brown trout

Sorry, I only spotted this thread a moment ago. I hope you got on alright. I would have said that the large dark olives are on at the moment and that the black gnats have started making a patchy appearence as well. I was on the Banoge stretch on Tuesday and it's really fishing well there. I lost count, all on the above flies fished dry. Another guy I ran into was fishing tungsten nymphs in various olive and pheasant tail variations and he seemed to be getting a fish about every second cast.
Whereabouts did you fish?

Simon.

I caught my first and second ever wild brown trout, wee tiddlers but made me so happy haha I caught on a dawl bach and a small pheasant tail nymph. I was fishing at drum bridge, i'll have to check out that stretch, is it easy to find?

EDIT: Is that hall road, near craigavon, that's a fair hike for me

Glad you got some fish. Yes, that's the stretch at Hall Road I'm talking about. Iveagh Angling Club waters. If you ever decide to try it you can get tickets in Loughview Angling Centre just as you come off the M1 at Lurgan. It's beside the Spar. There's a newish club at Seymour Hill just outside Lisburn as well. If that's any better I'll make enquiries for you. I know the Chairman vaguely but I don't have any other information I'm afraid.

Here you go, including directions and "price".

Here's a couple of pictures. Scroll to post #13 http://www.flyfishing.co.uk/trout-gr...ou-fish-2.html
Our stretch is probably at it's best before the end of May and again in September and October. Obviously I hope you come here, fall in love with it and join the club for next season. Membership is open and costs 45.00 p/a.

Nice pics, thats a beaut brownie you got. I'll definately take a race up some time. I tried ravarnet river last night, seen a few rising but the trout won last night. Was more of a scouting mission and only fished for a short time. I need to invest in some waders!
