Foremark weekly report week ending 16th July 2017
Telephone Number: 01283 703202

Whilst the weather has significantly changed and has been variable this week the water temperature has changed from the low twenties by a few degrees to bottom at eighteen degrees centigrade. Hence the impact to the fishing has been marginal with no significant improvement and the fishing continues to be difficult.

The week saw a total of 76 rod visits with a total catch of 103 equated to a weekly rod average of 1∙4, the same as the previous week’s. It has been particularly difficult for the bank anglers and although the water level has dropped affording easier access the fish tend to be in the deeper water and hence the boat angler has recorded the highest returns; the hot spots being the aerators/’boils’ and the cascade. All anglers have been frustrated since the fish have been chasing the flies but they will not take the fly that enables an effective hook up or will just nip at the fly without effecting a connection. In the evening, the perch have been actively chasing the pin fry in the margins which bodes well for the future.

The drop in the water level was partly induced by greater water usage and that the pumping station from the Dove was under repair during this week. However recent news indicates that the new pumps will be incorporated in a few weeks which should assist in circumventing the low water levels of previous year’s.
Mr A Tapping again had a good day on the aerators and caught 6 trout on an intermediate line using minkies and damsels.

Mr Ricky Cotterill and Mr Dermott Murphy caught 10 trout and 7 trout respectively from the aerators on various damsels and crunchers on intermediate and midge tip lines. Some of these fish were over wintered. They also witnessed a shoal of 6 blues cavorting on the surface and a large brown trout. None of these fish could be tempted to take or did not even show any interest to the fly.

Mr Tony and Mrs Ruth Kirk continue despite the difficult fishing conditions to catch with Tony catching 3 trout and Ruth 2 trout on hoppers and boobies. However, Ruth also caught a perch in excess of two pounds from the cascade.

It is worthy of note that a Mr Ian Brierley caught 2 trout on black buzzers in these difficult bank angling conditions.

Mr Nadin demonstrated the total art of fishing in these difficult fishing days, by catching 7 fish on dry flies on his own hand tied black peacock and CDC’s on size 14 hooks.

Mr Malcom Parker caught 5 fish including a blue, which was returned, during a last 4-hour session.
When using the driveway to Foremark please be wary since there is Muntjac deer with kids and Fallow deer which cross the road on a frequent basis.
