Default ID help with a fly box.

I acquired this in a job-lot inheritance, no makers mark either inside or out, however, it has an inscription on the bottom which gives an approximate date.

Thanks in advance for any information.

It’s a classic Wheatley shape taffy, I think with all the wear it’s probably just lost it’s logo.
It’s a nice thing whatever it is.

Sit still and watch the river, it's all a part of fishing.

A nice piece of history. The Wheatley mark is usually on one of the edges - a diamond +

Clive at Richard Wheatley - Link should be able give you more information, and may be interested in the date info.

You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way and the only way, it does not exist.

Spot on. There's a diamond etched with the letters "RW" inside on one edge. Thanks for the replies gents, much appreciated.

Sorry I am not on here quite so often.

The box was made between 1910 and 1928. The box was possibly not new when the inscription was added.

    It is a lovely item.

We just had one of those come into stock at our Thomas Turner store last week. It stood out because of the leather folder in the lid - first I had seen like this. I think ours had tweezers in the little holding loop. Nice - will you use it do you think?
