    Default Older Century Fly Rods

Last night I picked up an 11ft #6/7 Century 'Stealth' fly rod on eBay. I haven't been able to establish much about this UK company through trawling the net so I thought I'd ask here in the hope others know more.

What I gather from 'forum chat' is that Century was formed by Simon Chilcott from the proverbial ashes of Pateke Morton in Washington, Tyne & Wear, when they ceased trading (prior to 1986 is my best date yet). Today they are called Century Composites Ltd. and are still making fishing rods on the same site, as well as composites for other industries. They have a very strong reputation amongst the beach-casting and the carp fraternities and carry a small range of double-handed fly rods in their 'Stealth' range.
Century appear to have a USA presence as 'Advancedfishing-USA' and, curiously, they do sell a range of four single-handed fly rods. I'm uncertain whether those photos are of the individual rods. Perhaps they are intended for the bass/fly market?

But Century have an earlier incarnation of 'Stealth' fly rods and it is these pre-Millennial I'm seeking information on.

Other than the 11ft #6/7 s-h rod, I have read of a 10ft 7/8 (''.... a nice powerful resevoir/sea trout rod'') but have found no other information on these first 'Stealth' rods.
Any additional info would be appreciated, factual and anecdotal, model ranges, etc. Thanks.

Could be worth asking over on our sister salmon fishing forum ,I seem to remember the original owner of that site AKA springer had a range of rods made by century .

Hi, Andy, thanks. You're spot on, Springer became involved in the mid-naughties developing their d-h salmon rod range however I don't think he participates on the SFF any more. Still, could be worth a cast there later ....

I remember being told he had more Century breaks than Stephen Hendry, not sure if there was any truth in it but it was a great line.

Excellent, Andy. I didn't know Alan Maughan was 'Springer'. The wee quote about the 10ft #7/8 above was by Mr. Maughan on this forum, which kinda fits!
I'll maybe drop him a line once the rod has arrived. Cheers!

I believe Century make blanks for a well known Scott(ish) ghillie and casting guru using their autoclave technology and with graphene in the composite.

I think those highly regarded rods by Atomsix also come from the same stable.
