Default Bruce and Walker Mark1 Fly rod.

Bruce and Walker Mark 1 9ft Fibreglass fly rod.
My Dad has an old fly rod as above, does anyone know anything about it, how do I find out what line it is rated for as I can't see anything on the rod at all.

Way back in the 'Olden Days' fly lines were given a letter designation rather than a 'number.' The letter, or combination there-of,' indicated the 'what.' Here's a link to the old converted to the 'new.'

Just an educated guess on my part but if this rod was used 'just' for lake trout fishing it's probably a 5 or 6. If moving water a 6 or 7.

It was one of the first rods specifically designed for trout fishing from the bank on reservoirs, it would date from the mid-60s, up to then we were using sea trout rods that were not designed for long casting and made your arms hurt after a day's use. From memory I think it threw a 9wt shooting head.

It was shortly followed by the B&W Ultralite and Hardy RW Superlite.

That might make sense as there is a 9 on the rod under the Mark1, I thought it was just the length.
