Going tomorrow Williams weather not looking the best but I will give it a crack, looking at getting rough side of the bigga to start I think, just wondering where do I leave the car now, as I understand the gate into the forrestry is now closed

As i understand it Giggsy the gate may not be closed as there seems to be a bit of work going on ie the forestry. but i think it safer if you park at the gateway its not a long walk now as so many of the trees have gone you ll see the lake from the gate. it looks as though i'm going to bail tomorrow as 29mph northly is not much fun on a boat, my advice to you and anyone else don't go to far from the car. if i were on the bank i think the roadside of the bigga, bigga point, gronwen, eblid and cwm coch which ever has a little shelter all thease areas have fish. Best of luck keep us informed

    Thumbs up

    22/03/08
Arrived at the lake this morning about 9 am . weather was as forecast strong northenly wind temp about 5-6deg. After taking in the situation and listening to Russ's advice we headed up to the biga which was supprisingly more sheltered from the wind than the popular side and rainbow corner. I started fishing just down from the gronwen field (prob where the forestry begins on the opposite bank). My mate headed further up the bigga arm, my idea was to eventualy walk and fish the whole bank. MAnged to hook into a decent fighting raindbow after about 30 mins fishing a di5 line counted to about 20 ,on a green fritz tadpole. Nothing going for a good hour then and the strong wind was beginning to hinder my casting so moved further up the arm where it was more sheltered. Hooked into fantastic wild brown trout which I landed on an olive bob fly I had tied up, in the process also hooking a rainbow on my point fly at the same time, managed to land the brownie but lost the bow. The brownie was about 1lb 1/2 fantastic condition and lovely markings and wish i had a picture, but no time for that and returned it to the water as soon as possible for another day.
Moved again further up the arm to where the old forrestry would have started and the water slightly deeper. There were alot of bank anglers up there and 2 boats with most seemingly catching.I Managed to take 5 more fish through the day on various flies but these were alot higher in the water than the earlier fish, almost fishing my Di5 straight away. After taking my limit by about 3pm , my mate took his 3 rd fish of the day again fished quite high in the water (prob 3ft down).
With the wind now dropped I decided to try a dry line and fished three buzzers on a long leeda , where I took a fantastic overwintered rainbow of about 3lb with only my second cast a tremndous fight with the fish leaping out of the water what must have been 4 or 5 times, after a great fight I dualy returned it to the water where it swam off without any problems after all that spent energy. A couple more takes on the buzzers but none to the net , then it started snowing so that was enough for the day. A great day even though cold and at times very blustery. 9 fish taken between 2 of us and 2 fines specimens returned.Cant wait for my next visit. My mate Wes really enjoyed his first outing on a large stillwater and also cant wait to get back.

well done giggsy as williams said it wasnt for the faint heared up there yest a friend of mine said he went up but the horizontal hail stones made it a short visit i'v just got back from cages, we stocked another 500 this morn 30% between 3 and 5lb so that should add a little spice. About 20 anglers along popular side so there are some other brave souls about lets hope the weather picks up a little, the welsh Ladies team have got a squad training day up there next Sun be nice if it wasn't to windy!
