    Default Black Squirrel

Saw my first black squirrel yesterday, amazing looking animal but unfortunately it was dead.

Will have to try and spot a live one now being that I live in the black squirrel UK epicentre

I lived in Hertfordshire when I was a kid and black squirrels were a regular sight in the grounds of my school
    Kind regards,

Saw a melanistic red squirrel many years ago, the only time I've seen one.
Part albino blackbirds used to be a regular occurrance around here at one time but not seen one for years.
Not sure there is a species of black squirrel loose in the UK?.

This one was on the A1 just before the A507 Shefford turn off, I'm new to the area so they're new to me.

They are not a different species, but a dark (melanistic) morph of Grey Squirrels. Remarkably common in parts of Eastern Canada, too.
The melanistic Red Squirrels on the Continent are very beautiful, IMO.

We used to have those here many years ago. Not 'part albino' as such, but a condition called leucism (kind of the opposite of melanism, but patchy). It's quite a common mutation in birds. The crows here are currently rife with it...

I would suggest you ought to mean fortunately it was dead, horrible invasive species.
