Custom cerakote for a Hardy Marquis

I did this custom cerakote job on a customers Hardy Marquis reel yesterday it’s Robin egg blue, Blue titanium and Hunter orange cerakote. I think it came out well. Some people would prefer a less showy design or even just a refurb using original colours but the higher grade of cerakote. What I know is that this ceramic coating will protect this reel from corrosion, impact and salt for many years to come 👍🏻

I see the rivets and spindle cap were not removed. Does this impact longevity of the coat, or lead to cracking etc over time.

I ask as I would like a system two solid face reel done, but the counterbalance does not appear to be removable, without needing to be re-riveted.

I can do it at our business Cerakote up north, a 3 colour design with stencils is around £150 as it’s very labour intensive. A single or two colour design without stencilling is around £60
The price increases the more technical and time consuming the design is.

Each to their own, I think it looks bloody awful.
I think you have misunderstood the post, the design is not the point, that is personal taste the point of the post is to show that any vintage of reel can be cerakoted which is a coating that will protect the reel for many decades ahead from abrasion, salt, water, cleaning fluids etc. you can have the most boring colours or the most vibrant colours and NOTHING will protect the reel like cerakote can.
The reason the reel was cerakoted was because the original coating had failed and the reel was starting to degrade.

we can coat it grey just like we can coat it pink with bluedots.
I’m sorry this post offended you. Thanks for the reply though

I'm not sure I've misunderstood anything, the post says you think it looks good, i disagree,
and although I appreciate it might improve the longevity of the finish of a vintage reel, I am sure it will actually devalue it compared to the correct finish.

So you would have a standard colour finish! Who said anything about selling it, the customer requested it because he wanted something fun and different. Not everything is about making money, it is not devalued in the owners eyes, it is vastly improved.
We think it looks great and no one cares about its value, let’s face it it’s a fishing reel no one is retiring on the sale of it. 👍🏻

Hi Jay,

yes we have all the swatches available to view, there are about 250 colours in total. Many of them very earthy brown/sand/green etc as Cerakote roots is in protecting firearms for the US military but we have around 100 very bright colours and all these colours can be mixed to produce one off colours if required. Are you local’ish to Lancaster, Lancashire as you are welcome to pop in.
Cheers Matt

I think modern reels would look cool in these colours, but the Hardy looks a bit odd, like a toy reel, but thats just my personal preference. Kudos to you for the business idea though. 👍

I would think that there would be quite the demand for sea fishing reels to be recoated. My sea reels, spinning, multiplier etc get terribly battered.

Most reels are aluminum, just curious though, you'd prefer that over getting it anodized ? (it would need some bath if its already anodized), thickness of the coating can thousands of a mm (even for hard anodizing) rather than 1mm for Cerakote. I guess on old reels, the tolerances are pretty wide, so won't make a difference...
