Hi my name is William Wallace and I new to fishing last year. This year I got a vision gt4 dh lite 13'2" weight 8 then i got vision spey ace 8/9 line but it does not cast or pull any line out at all.
I have from my other salmon rod tried to cast using it and the same result so i put the 9/10 line on the vision and it casts very well.
My query is to what line would be ideal for using and loading the gt4 rod as the spey ace does not in my opinioin have a weight forward to throw itself out with any rod.

The 29g rating on your rod will relate to rccommended weight for shooting heads, not full speylines - for example my 15' Vision GT4 Catapult #11 is rated 37g which is spot on for shooting heads, however it will take speylines in the 44-50g range. You must remember that when casting speylines more of the actual line is placed on the water [and therefore some of the weight of the line], whereas with shooting heads only the mono leader should touch the water and the full grammage of the line then works the rod. A speyline of about 34-36g should go well with your rod.

vision spey lines

Thanks again beanieboy, This makes sense and explains what i am experiencing. What do you think off your gt4 catapult rod ? I was going to get one but went for the easier casting lite as again lack of experience and they say the slower action will help. I do like it as it is so light to use and quality is first rate with a great cork handle.

The GT4 Catapult, despite it's reputation as being a very fast rod, is actually a very user friendly rod with great feel. It is without doubt one of the best doublehanders I have used [and I have used more than a few in my time!]. If I had one criticism it would be that mine has broken twice during normal use which has obviously affected my overall confidence in the rod. The blank walls are very thin, hence the weight [less than 10oz] which is very light for a 15'er. Vision guarantee was however very good and there was no problem getting replacement sections. The ordinary GT4 is slower than the Catapult and may be an option for those who prefer a more traditional type action. The very new Vision Cult has a very traditional action with a fast recovery, yet another potential option. Vision rods are generally very good, I am not a huge fan fan of their lines though, which is why I recommended the Hardy Mach - great line.

Hi Beanie Boy
I have used my vision now for the past 2 weeks with guideline bill dury line 65 head 9/10 and to be honest it works really well. I have even improved my casting as the rod allows and makes you want to cast. Again as you say Beanie Boy the rod is so lite and I love the handle. I have went back to my 14" and its not as nice to use.
