I am staying Beaminster. Dorset, unlike Devon doesn't seem to have as much information.

I was looking at the Sid and the Brit but can't find any information on fishing them. Any pointers or knowledge?

Richard Slocock offers day tickets on a number of beats on the Frome and Piddle in mid-Dorset, both of which which are not too long a drive from Beaminster. See Wessex Chalk Streams Ltd. Introduction. - Dorset Fly Fishing

Only problem is that by reputation the Piddle in particular is an "early river", and the fishing might be tough right now.

Alternative thought is to head west not east and think about some of the East Devon rivers like the Otter and the Axe. I have heard that these more rain fed rivers have not been helped by July's mini-drought, though.

Carlos there is a much longer beat at Abbeygate farm at Axminster. Last time I fished it it was only ÂŁ5/day. It isn't advertised anywhere and not signposted but it is worth finding. The farm is just south of Axminster. The beat at Weycroft is, as you say, a bit short. It is worth fishing at night for sea trout.

The Brit (and Asker) in and around Bridport is free or at least nobody will bother you. It is hardly wilderness fishing but there are nice trout and possibly a big silver surprise...

I'm not aware of anyone offering fishing up around Beaminster but knocking on farm doors or at Parnham house might get you something. It is a nice little trout stream.

Carlos just to be clear (which I wasn't above) the Abbeygate beat and the Weycroft beat are two completely different bits of water.

Another vote for the Brit in Bridport. The stream flows through one of the car parks in town, and on the 2 occasions I've been there plenty of rising fish, but maybe better to wait for the evening when the town empties; was speaking to a local lady about fishing it and she told me to leave them alone......not wrong I guess.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall fished the Brit. He seems an easy going sort of chap, you could ask him.

mmm. That was a long time ago now and he lives over Axminster way.

However I did a longer walk along the Brit yesterday evening. Past Parnham house there is a small bridge and there sitting under it was a perfect looking small trout.

I refrained from fishing as there was a big sign saying private no right of way.

I'm in a lake syndicate with private parking. People ingore the signs and quite right too! Not the fishing rights, just the parking that is hardly used by members. It just looks so mean spirited.
