I have recently bought a Horrocks-Ibbotson Saranac rod.
The reel seat is all metal (steel maybe) with an elongated double diamond mark pressed into it with "BEST " and "BY TEST" at either end of the double diamond and with HORROCKS-IBBOTSON (top) & MFRS FISHING TACKLE (bottom) in the border surrounding UTICA NY (inside).
There is a wooden holder with two leather caps for the sections.
The SARANAC decal is in a rectangle with a geometric pattern in yellow, red & green.
The rod needs a bit of work and I wondered if anyone knows what it looked like originally?
Were the reel seat & ferrules blued or just left as white metal?
How does the cumbersome block of wood work, should something hold the two end caps together?
Would it have had a rod bag (sock) originally?
It looks as if the guides may have been black; would that be right.
I think the reel seat dates it to 1934-1939 but would be grateful for confirmation or a more specific date.
Thanks in advance if anyone can answer one or more of these questions.
