A you posting on your mobile from a nice leafy arbour?

In die casting the alloy is poured into a receiver and injected under pressure into the mould. Always injected under pressure. Intrinsic in the process.

Pouring into a mould indicates some form of gravity casting: permanent mould, green sand, lost wax, investment etc.

The romans invented lost wax casting, nowadays more likely to be polystyrene or other light polymer foam former.

The AFFTA standard for fly reel feet, (not "seat" as described), has only been about since the early 2000's, there's a lot of older reels out there that don't fit modern reel seats.

There's some modern reel feet, that don't even fit modern reel seats too! It's common for them to be slack or even a little too deep to nip up securely. Can be a nightmare at times.

I have a few rods with the old Fuji FPS seats - they were light, had a large adjustment range and held skinny and fat feet securely because off the shape of the part that housed the foot.
Iconic design that deserves to endure.

The technical term is the "drivel" version- the only the language he can speak.
In fairness his motives are good, but he doesn't seem to like me much and lets that cloud his judgement- his obstinacy gets in the way. The hierarchy of quality he has arrived at seems to be what the marketeers have decided upon and not reality, There is a lack of understanding of die casting and cost. He seems to have missed the cold forged shimano example as well.

ho hum.

Thought for today

Interesting with these understanding threads and the forum in general is that not many understand that understanding, is the ability to see things from both sides.

On the forum we get those who only see what they want to see and if its not what they want they start with the verbal abuse that can only be described as online bullying.
